Assignment 2 - Cause and Effect

When you see plastic bags, what is the first thing that pops into your mind? Yes, it's pollution. To be specific, water, air and soil pollution plus a lot of energy is needed and greenhouse gases are released during the process of manufacturing and, transportation of plastic bags which contribute to global warming.

Sketch

This is what it supposed to be but i messed up with the layers so im going to give it another try T_T

MAKING PROCESS

Step 1
First, pen tool is used to draw the outlines of the factory, layer per layer.

Step 2
Factory chimneys. I use ellipse tool to create the oval shape of the chimney. To make things easier, duplicate the ovals from the first chimney to create the other two chimneys on different layers.

Step 3
Done with the drawing. Its time to fill in the colours using live paint bucket.

Step 4
Next step is to create smoke effects. Curves are drawn using pen tool. Then, Gaussian blur (Effect->Blur->Gaussian Blur) effects are applied on the curves creating the smoke effects.

Step 5
I duplicate the factory, resize the image and positioned it slightly behind the first factory.

Step 6
Then i fill in the background colour. Next, ellipse tool is used to draw the waste pipes that are connected to the factories from the underground. I rotated it to -10' to match with the ground angle and finish up the whole thing using pen tool.

Step 7
Roads and river are drawn with pen tool and the colours are filled using live paint bucket.

Step 8
Adding texture. First click on the area and select transparency. Make opacity masks and select the area with rectangle tool. After that, go to File>>Place.. to add the texture to the river from an image file that i saved on my computer from the internet. (Thank you Bernard for sharing the video tutorial(: )

Step 9
Next I use gradient tool and dragged in the colours into the gradient slider to add brown and green tones to the river to make it look polluted.

Done:)
